NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stock market futures fell Monday morning, under pressure from higher interest rates and the risk of broader conflict in the Middle East. The yield on the 10-year Treasury was at 5% Monday, a level it hasn’t reached since 2007. Stocks have been struggling under the weight of the bond market since high yields make borrowing more expensive for everyone and slow the economy while dragging on prices for stocks and other investments. “Indeed, the trajectory of U.S. Treasurys is not merely a question; it is the only question for financial markets,” Stephen Innes of SPI Asset Management said in a commentary. “U.S. government bonds are the critical benchmark reference point against which virtually all other global assets are ultimately priced off.”The Federal Reserve raised its overnight interest rate rapidly hoping to quash high inflation, which has come down from its peak last summer. The yield on the 10-year Treasury has recently has been catching up to the Fed...Alexandria-based group brings HBCU financial literacy competition to Gaylord National Harbor

(CNN) — A new combination of cancer medications appears to extend overall survival in patients with advanced bladder cancer more than the chemotherapies currently used as the standard of care. The research, being presented Sunday at this year’s European Society for Medical Oncology Congress in Madrid, suggests that a combination of the antibody drug enfortumab vedotin and the immunotherapy pembrolizumab, administered through IV infusions, cut the risk of disease progression or death by 55% in patients with advanced bladder cancer who hadn’t been treated before and whose cancer spread to other parts of the body — extending overall survival by a median of 31.5 months versus 16.1 months with standard chemotherapy. This is one of several new studies exploring ways to improve how bladder cancer is treated.“The problem with chemotherapy is although it works quite well initially, resistance occurs quickly, and the median survival for metastatic bladder cancer has been about a year,” said Dr....ResortPass unlocks local luxury pools, spas and more with new app

(CNN) — Billions of snow crabs have disappeared from the ocean around Alaska in recent years, and scientists now say they know why: Warmer ocean temperatures likely caused them to starve to death. The finding comes just days after the Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced the snow crab harvest season was canceled for the second year in a row, citing the overwhelming number of crabs missing from the typically frigid, treacherous waters of the Bering Sea.The study, published Thursday by scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, found a significant link between recent marine heat waves in the eastern Bering Sea and the sudden disappearance of the snow crabs that began showing up in surveys in 2021.“When I received the 2021 data from the survey for the first time, my mind was just blown,” said Cody Szuwalski, lead author of the study and fishery biologist at NOAA. “Everybody was just kind of hoping and praying that that was an error in the survey and that ...Latest news
