He became Austin's first black city council member after slavery, now historic home being restored AUSTIN (KXAN)— Tucked away in the heart of Rosewood Park is where the cabin Henry Green Madison lived in after slavery sits. Austin Parks Foundation and the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) are leading the effort. This is all happening ahead of the 2023 Juneteenth Holiday. According to PARD, Madison was born into slavery in Memphis, Tennessee in 1843. Once slavery officially ended in 1865, Madison moved to Austin. NYT report: Austin gained 28K remote workers during pandemic AUSTIN (KXAN) — A new report from The New York Times' The Upshot found approximately 28,000 remote workers relocated to Austin during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, marking the analysis' highest recorded net gain of remote workers nationally.The analysis found New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco were the three metros accounting for the highest losses of remote workers, with 116,000, 53,000 and 32,000 workers relocating from those areas, respectively. In contrast, Austin's net gain of 28,000 remote workers, Denver's additional 23,000 remote employees along with Nashville and Dallas' 10,000 additional remote workers each rounded out the top influxes. I-70 mountain drivers will receive warnings — and soon fines — for violating express lane rules Drivers who weave in and out of the Interstate 70 mountain express lanes or use them when they’re closed soon will receive the first $75 fines as the state begins using cameras to target unsafe driving in its expanding toll-lane network.The Colorado Department of Transportation on Wednesday will switch on a new automated enforcement system that will use cameras and sensors to catch violations in the westbound I-70 mountain express lane between the Veterans Memorial Tunnels and Empire.
