From 12 options to 9, Orioles’ rotation competition taking shape with 10 spring training games remaining Mike Baumann was the first. Who could be next?Baumann on Thursday became the first Orioles starting pitcher to get word from the coaching staff that he was being shifted to a bullpen role. With still nine starters vying to begin the season in the rotation, it’s likely that others will be transitioned into relievers. What first needs to be settled, though, is who the club’s five starters will be to open the campaign. While the five front-runners in February remain in prime position to claim those spots, there are still about two turns through the rotation left before spring training ends. The Orioles began spring training with executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias saying that 12 pitchers would be competing for the starting rotation. Three of those names — Baumann, Drew Rom and DL Hall — are no longer options to break camp in the rotation. Rom was optioned last week, while Hall, who has yet to pitch in an exhibition this spring, won’t be r...

Revolution blank Nashville SC 1-0 for third win Gustavo Bou’s goal in the 52nd minute lifted the New England Revolution to a 1-0 victory over Nashville SC on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium.Bou was making his second appearance after missing all of training camp and the first two games of the season trying to get a work VISA. Goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic had three saves to record his third clean sheet in four starts.“It was good, his (Bou) best performance,” said Revolution head coach Bruce Arena. “Obviously he is going to get better each game as he builds up his fitness, but that was a great first goal. He had a couple of other chances. He gave us a real good effort.”The Revolution improved to 3-1-0 while handing Nashville (2-1-1) its first loss. Nashville had not given up a goal in three games before Bou found the back of the net. The Revolution have recorded three shutouts in the first four games for the first time in club history and are off to their second best start.

Gabe Vincent has provided some Heat answers, yet questions remain Gabe Vincent has learned to live in the moment, including these moments as starting point guard over the past six weeks for the Miami Heat. But he also knows what’s ahead, to hit free agency in July. So, yes, also an eye to the future, a future that during last season’s playoffs appeared would come with a significant payoff, earning unprompted praise from Trae Young, but a future now somewhat clouded by an uneven season, including scoring just three points on 1-of-5 shooting in Saturday night’s road loss to the Chicago Bulls.“I think if someone told you they were in this situation and they didn’t think about it, they’d be lying to you,” Vincent said, with the Heat closing out the two-game trip Sunday night against the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena. “So it’s something that definitely comes across your mind that you do think about. But I don’t think it’s something that has impacted my play, per se.”Like ma...

ASK IRA: Did Heat err in sitting out Kyle Lowry in Chicago?

ASK IRA: Did Heat err in sitting out Kyle Lowry in Chicago? Q: There was no reason for the Heat giving Kyle Lowry Saturday off. They have been idle for days. – Paolo.A: Actually, we should have seen this coming, a back-to-back set scheduled just four games into Kyle Lowry’s comeback from a month, 15 games away due to knee pain. An argument could be made it would have been malpractice to play Kyle in both of these weekend games in Chicago and Detroit. But the remaining two back-to-backs on the Heat schedule feature an upgrade in competition, first at Toronto and then New York, and then at Philadelphia and then Washington. The question is whether the Heat would dare utilize Lowry, who will turn 37 by then, in both games of those sets. As it is, neither the play-in nor the playoffs feature back-to-back games, so it could well be that Kyle will go without a back-to-back set in his return. Still, one would have to wonder if the Heat would have fallen so significantly behind had Lowry been available in Chicago.Q: Ira, last season when ...

'Pantry porn' makes obsessively organized kitchens a new status symbol (The Conversation) - Neatly aligned glass spice jars tagged with printed white labels. Wicker baskets filled with packages of pasta, crackers and snacks. Rows of flavored seltzer water stacked in double-decker plastic bins.In today’s consumer culture, “a place for everything and everything in its place” isn’t just a mantra; it’s big business. Nowhere is this more evident than the kitchen pantry. Most people can relate to finding half-empty cereal boxes squirreled away in the cupboard or letting produce sit just a bit too long in a refrigerator drawer. But for a subset of social media denizens, such sacrileges would never grace their feeds. As someone who studies digital consumer culture, I’ve noticed an uptick in glamorized, stylized and fully stocked pantries on TikTok and Instagram, giving rise to a content genre I dub “pantry porn.”How did the perfectly organized pantry become so ubiquitous in the digital age? And what does it say about the expectations...
