Settlement reached with seafood processing company accused of illegally dumping squid ink in Ventura Harbor The Ventura County District Attorney's Office has reached a settlement with the seafood processing business accused of illegally dumping squid ink wastewater into Ventura Harbor.According to the Ventura County DA, fishing vessels are prohibited from releasing squid ink wastewater, or stick water, inside of state waters and are required to transport the wastewater three nautical miles offshore. Stick water is lethal to fish and marine life due to its high concentration of ammonia. California Department of Fish and Wildlife witnessed squid ink being released into Ventura Harbor on Dec. 22, 2021, by Silver Bay Seafoods – California LLC. Middle school student who allegedly had loaded handgun at school taken into custody in San Jose (KRON) -- A middle school student who allegedly had a loaded firearm in their possession on a middle school campus has been taken into custody, according to the San Jose Police Department. Police units are currently on the campus of Hoover Middle School investigating.The juvenile was taken into custody and a loaded handgun was seized, police said. There were no threats made to the school and there is no ongoing threat to the school or surrounding area, police said.Police were initially alerted to the situation at around 10:21 a.m. As of about 1 p.m., officers remained on campus.An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to police.Bay City News contributed to this report.
