CHICAGO — Chicago police will take new steps to prevent a recurrence of last weekend's violence on the streets of the city's Loop.The weather is anticipated to be much colder this weekend with highs in the 40s compared to last weekend's 80s. DOLTON, Ill. — Dolton police officers fatally shot an armed man while responding to a domestic dispute call Friday morning. According to police, sometime before 5:30 a.m., officers were called to a home in the 600 block of E. 144th St. Moments earlier, a woman called the police in fear for her safety, police added. AUSTIN (KXAN) — An American Airlines employee died Thursday at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), and the Austin Police Department is investigating the incident as accidental, according to police.At approximately 2 p.m., officers responded to a crash incident at AUS after airport communications called 911 requesting emergency services, Public Information Officer Destiny Silva of the Austin Police Department said during a media briefing at the airport.The APD said an airline employee was operating a ground service vehicle that struck a jet bridge.APD and Austin-Travis County EMS arrived to find the employee suffering from injuries in the area of the tarmac where planes park, to pick up and drop off passengers. CHICAGO — A 63-year-old man faces one felony count of first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing a man to death on April Fool's Day. Rosco Williams is accused of fatally stabbing a 36-year-old man in the 3300 block of W. Roosevelt in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood. AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin Police said a man was detained Friday morning after stabbing a driver on a CapMetro bus in downtown Austin. According to police, officers were called to the bus at the corner of 5th Street and North Lamar Boulevard just before 2 a.m. CapMetro said "one of our operators is believed to have been assaulted and cut by a customer." AUSTIN (Texas Tribune) — Public schools in Texas would have to prominently display the Ten Commandments in every classroom starting next school year under a bill the Texas Senate approved Thursday.Senate Bill 1515 by Sen. Phil King, R-Weatherford, now heads to the House for consideration.This is the latest attempt from Texas Republicans to inject religion into public schools. In 2021, state Sen. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A San Antonio man was arrested last week and faces a murder charge in a 42-year-old cold case out of Comal County, Texas. Larry Allen West, 68, was arrested by Texas Rangers on April 13 and charged in the 1981 murder of Carol Joyce Deleon, who was 18 at the time, according to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety. West was linked to the murder through new evidence in the case, which was subjected to advanced DNA testing under DPS' Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) program.Deleon's body was found in June 1981, along IH-35 in southern Comal County, but she wasn't identified until 27 years later. Investigators tried to identify her using fingerprints and a composite sketch that was released to local media at the time, but she ultimately was buried as a Jane Doe.
